A dog grooming appointment is different than an appointment at a hair salon or barber shop in that we bathe, dry, brush and groom each dog from start to finish. We have all the dogs arrive at their scheduled appointment times, then all the dogs are bathed, then dried, then “finished” (haircut, deshed/furminated, nails trimmed, teeth brushed, etc.). So while one dog is being bathed, one is being dried and one is being finished. This process allows us to keep our prices down for you. Remember dogs have about 4 or 5 times the amount of hair that a human does.
We do our best to get all dogs finished in a timely manner and dogs are more or less finished in the order that they arrive. The time it takes to complete the scheduled dogs is dependent on a variety of things: how many dogs are booked on that day, what types of dogs are booked, what condition those dogs are in when they arrive, their behavior, etc. We can give you an estimated time when your dog is going to be finished, however, please wait for us to call (or text) you to let you know that your dog is finished before showing up. We try our best to keep on a tight schedule but sometimes dogs can be unpredictable and one dog that needs extra attention can set everyone back. We have a limited amount of space and kennels and we do not offer boarding services. Therefore, we ask that when you receive notification that your pets are ready for pick up, that you do everything possible to pick up within 1 hour of notification. Any stay longer than 3 hours will have a $15 extended stay fee added.
If you have a time that you need your dog finished by, please let us know when you are making your appointment and we will schedule you for a day that will be possible. We also offer an “express groom” service (also known as "In and Out"). This means that your dog is done “straight through” and depending on your dog, this can take anywhere between 60 minutes to 2 hours per dog. Express service must be scheduled at the time you make your appointment, and we can only schedule 1 per day, so you may have to wait for availability. "In and Out" will always be the first appointment of the day.
Please make sure to let your pup “do their business” (i.e. go to the bathroom) before bringing them for their grooming appointment. As most dogs are accustomed to “holding it” for 6-8 hours (overnight, while you’re at work, out running errands, etc) we generally do not take dogs out for potty breaks as a matter of safety. If you spend time with your dog during the day, you know they spend most of the day sleeping, and that’s usually the case while they are with us. Of course, if your dog has special needs we will accommodate them as requested. Very young or very old dogs are usually the ones with the most issues, so if you know this about your dog please schedule your appointment on a day that you will be available to pick up as soon as we call (or text) you.
We do our BEST to give you the groom that you request. However, there are times that it’s not possible. Things like matting, behavior, etc, sometimes limit what we are able to accomplish based on safety and health of your dog. When a dog is matted it’s not always possible to “brush it out” or leave the hair longer. We will always discuss this with you before we do something different than what you requested.
The groomer will give you an estimated price at drop-off. However, this price may change once your furry friend has begun the process due to things like matting, behavior, etc. The best way to understand grooming prices is to think of them as “based on time”. We quote prices based on our knowledge of about how long it takes to groom each breed. If your dog has “exceptions” we may charge a bit more or a bit less.
Please arrive at your scheduled time. We have a specific amount of time and space in our salons so we schedule accordingly. It is an essential part of how our business operates because timing is very important. We need to be able to plan our day and ensure that everyone gets finished in a timely manner.
We always call or text every appointment the day before with an appointment reminder (please confirm that we have the correct number on file). If you are going to miss your appointment for any reason, please contact us ASAP. We request at least a 24 hour notice for all cancellations or reschedules to allow us time to fill the space with a customer from our waiting list.
We will hold grooming appointments for 30 minutes past the scheduled drop off time. Appointments later than 30 minutes may be released based without further notice on demand. If we have to release your appointment, if there is availability we will be happy to groom your pet.
If you have a very “high energy” pup, a long walk before you come in makes the process better for everyone, but most importantly your dog. Actually, every dog will benefit from doing this.
If your dog has had ANY medical issues in the past, please let us know. Knowledge of things like arthritis, ACL repairs, seizures, skin issues, moles, etc, help us take the best care of your pup and keep an eye out for any symptoms. Of course, we will alert you if we find anything you need to keep an eye out for such as ear infections, suspicious bumps/growths, etc. However, we are NOT vets, so we will just let you know that it’s something you need to keep an eye on or talk to your vet about.
If your dog has any behavioral issues, please let us know about these as well (doesn’t like other dogs, doesn’t like their feet touched, etc.) Do NOT be embarrassed. We all have our “issues”! We do not let the dogs interact with each other, again for safety reasons.
All dogs must be current on Rabies, Distemper/Parvo, Bordetella and the H3N2 (or bivalent) influenza vaccines. All dogs must be current on flea, tick and heartworm treatment. We HAVE to have your current vaccination records on file. Unfortunately, we can't take just a rabies tag - we need the actual expiration date. We are happy to call & verify the expiration date with your vet, or you can bring in your paperwork. We need it for the safety of our groomers, our shop people, & the other dogs. Do you know anyone who had to go through rabies treatment? It's a lot of shots. Like, A LOT of shots.
Please make sure that we have at least TWO phone numbers on file for you. A direct number for you and a back up number in case of emergency. This number can be anyone that knows you and your dog and knows how to reach you. Cell phones aren’t fail-proof, unfortunately!
ALL grooming customers must have a signed copy of our grooming release form on file. You will only need to SIGN IT ONCE and it will cover all dogs that you currently own and any you may own in the future. Please click here for the Release Form. Please initial each paragraph and sign the bottom of the form.
**If booking for more than 1 dog, add all dog names to Comments in the Appointment. No need to make multiple bookings.**

RE: Coronavirus and your Pets – Update #3 - June 22, 2020
Hi Dog Wash Café Friends,
As we continue to monitor the Coronavirus (COVID-19) situation and based on recent updates by the Centers for Disease Control (www.cdc.com) and the American Veterinary Medical Association (www.avma.org) we are providing updates about our services during this time in connection to their recommendations.
The AVMA updated their report entitled “SARS-CoV-2 in animals” on June 11, 2020 and the CDC updated their report entitled “COVID-19 and Animals” on June 22, 2020 and saying:
“Until we know more about how this virus affects animals, CDC encourages pet owners to treat pets as you would other human family members to protect them from possible infection. This means limiting contact between your pets and people outside your household as much as possible and avoiding places where large numbers of people gather.
Some areas are allowing groomers and boarding facilities such as dog daycares to open. If you must take your pet to a groomer or boarding facility, follow any protocols put into place at the facility, such as wearing a cloth face covering and maintaining at least 6 feet of space between yourself and others, if possible.
Limit pet items brought from home to the groomer or boarding facility and disinfect any objects that are taken into a facility and returned home (such as leashes, bowls, and toys). Use an EPA-registered disinfectant to clean items and rinse thoroughly with clean water afterwards. Do not wipe or bathe your pet with chemical disinfectants, alcohol, hydrogen peroxide, or any other products not approved for animal use.
Do not put face coverings on pets, and do not take a sick pet to a groomer or boarding facility. Signs of sickness in animals may include Fever, Coughing, Difficulty breathing or shortness of breath, Lethargy, Sneezing, Nasal/ocular discharge, Vomiting or Diarrhea.
If you think your pet is sick, call your veterinarian. Some veterinarians may offer telemedicine consultations or other plans for seeing sick pets. Your veterinarian can evaluate your pet and determine the next steps for your pet’s treatment and care.

For the safety of our clients, their pets, and our team members, Dog Wash Café reaffirms our commitment of following official pandemic guidelines as follows:
• Services require scheduled appointments. We are no longer accepting walk-ins.
• Self-Wash areas at the Windward location are open Saturdays Only.
• We follow the 6 ft distancing guidelines for our lobby areas. Please help us by waiting outside if you see more than 2 people in our lobby.
• Our Front desk staff wear masks, and while not required, we encourage everyone to wear a mask while in the lobby.
• Please remove your dog's leash and collar after we slip on our kennel leads. Take the leash and collar home with you.
• We will notify you by text or call when your pets are ready for pick up. Please pick up quickly after notice.
• Payments can be made both in person inside our salons or by phone.
• If you have a dry cough, fever, or any symptoms of COVID, please stay home and reschedule your appointment if it lands within 14 days of symptoms.
Our number one objective is to do what the Federal Government, the CDC, state, county and local governments suggest in order to minimize virus exposure. In all cases, we trust that our customers are doing their part to minimize their exposure outside of our facilities as well. Working together we can contribute to stopping the spread of the virus.
Every day, as part of our regular operations, our grooming salons are cleaned and sanitized. Our bathing tubs and drying tables, crates and grooming tables are sanitized daily. We clean up biologicals (pee and poop) immediately as they happen with Veterinary cleaning products that kill germs. We vacuum dog hair, dust and dander every few minutes. At end of day, we again sanitize all of our equipment, floors, and walls. We also change our HVAC filters regularly to ensure your dogs and our team members are breathing clean, healthy air.
We use the best and highest quality veterinary sanitizing products that are specifically formulated for Animal Facilities and Veterinary Medical establishments and approved by the EPA to kill coronaviruses and over 50 infectious agents. This is the link to ProVetLogic Efficacy Data for the Animal Facility Disinfectant product that we use: https://provetlogic.com/efficacy-data.
We have earned our “Safety Approved Grooming Salon” certification for each of our Grooming Salons from the International Professional Groomers Association (https://www.ipgicmg.com). Grooming facilities with the IPG certification have undergone a rigorous application process to have salons approved. All of our staff are IPG Safety Certified and you can trust your pet with any Grooming Salon that has the “Safety Approved Grooming Salon” IPG certification.
Additionally, we check with our team members at the start of every shift to ensure that anyone who is not feeling well for any reason whatsoever stays home. If they feel any of the COVID symptoms, we ask they they self-quarantine for 14 days or get tested asap. Everyone at Dog Wash Café is healthy and, thankfully, virus free. Our team is ready, willing and able to continue providing your pets with exceptional grooming and bathing services.
Thank you for your continued trust in Dog Wash Café. We will continue to do our part to ensure that your pets are safe and healthy while in our care.
Sincerely yours,
The Dog Wash Cafe Team
